Rah-e-Aman

Mindfulness and Meditation for Children

Planting Seeds of Stillness

“If every 8-year-old in the world is taught meditation, we will eliminate violence from the world within one generation”

– Dalai Lama

Vision

Rah-e-Aman was born from a simple but powerful dream: to give every child in Pakistan, especially those in underserved communities, the life-changing tools of meditation, mindfulness, and conscious living. We believe that learning the tools to develop inner peace is the most important thing to learn as we enter the future. Self-awareness, Emotional resilience and Mental acuity – this is the power our children need. Our vision is that every child, whether in a government classroom or a private school, learns these skills as they move forward in life, so as to become a source of healing and positive change not just for themselves, but also for their families and the large community.

Product

Rah-e-Aman is a complete 8 week Ed-Tech program in Urdu and English, designed and delivered by Békhudi. It includes (1) Original workbooks and readings, (2) Guided video lessons and meditations, (3) Teacher support materials, and (3) a master trainer model for scalability. The curriculum was developed from looking at the learnings from the internationally celebrated Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Program. The main idea was to temper and translate the course for the masses, and make it culturally relevant. The course is conducted through our master trainers in schools, with 8 taught lessons of 50 minutes each, and a certificate for students who complete the 40 day meditation challenge.

Pilot

This project was born out of a collaboration of three partners. In 2022, Békhudi partnered with two scholars from the University of Oxford and the Sabria Sirajia Schools in Faisalabad to design, create and run this course. The program was delivered to 250 students from grade 8 to 10. The project was a huge success. The findings of the research team were that the students who went through the program displayed (1) heightened sense of focus and calmness, (2) reduced anxiety and friction at home, and (3) performed much better academically than the control group. The school principal shared that this batch of students scored higher than any in the past ten years. This affirmed what we have always known — children carry emotional weight, and when given the right tools, they thrive academically, socially, and spiritually.

Pledge & Invitation

Rah-e-Aman is the living expression of Békhudi’s mission to heal the collective, not just the individual. We pledge 20% of revenue from every Békhudi Mind & Energy Mastery course to fund Rah-e-Aman, offering the program free of cost to underserved children. We have formally adopted the Sirajia Schools, an institution serving low-income families since the founding of Pakistan, and plan to expand to schools as we progress and grow. When you join a Békhudi course, you not only invest in your own wellbeing but also invest in enabling us to take the same tools to children from underserved contexts. We invite individuals, schools, and organizations to partner with us in this mission. Inner peace should not be a privilege. Together, we can make it every child’s closest companion.

Our Vision

Indeed, there is nothing more significant at this time than to foster the skills of conscious living within children. If we can teach them the art of meditation, share the scientific and spiritual benefits of living mindfully and help them elevate their consciousness, it will become a very powerful catalyst for positive changes in every aspect of their lives.

What is Rah-e-Aman?

Rah-e-Aman Program is an evidence-based iterative educational program, where we have developed Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Program (MSBR) for students of grade eight, nine and ten, by carefully responding to our cultural context and translating it into our own language, Urdu. This is the first time a program like this has been developed in Pakistan especially for children from low to middle income households.

This is neat - alumni from AKU-ISMC have set up an Urdu-English meditation platform to help people cope with the crisis of uncertainty and lockdown. We make a big deal about training future leaders in AKU-ISMC and sometimes that means people who have obvious positions of authority, like politicians, diplomats, scholars or entrepreneurs, but sometimes it means taking a lead in more personal capacities to try and make things better for others.

I'm truly impressed and humbled by Tehmina Mansoor and Zohaib Zuby. They are definitely demonstrating the kind of leadership that makes me proud to be part of AKU.
